Traditional
Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient system of healing cultivated
from over five thousand years of observation, investigation and
clinical experience. Its treatment modalities include acupuncture,
acupressure massage, herbal and nutritional medicine.
Chinese
medicine is based on the key principle of balance. Its goal is to
promote wellness and prevent disease by striving for balance of
yin and yang, and unhindered flow of Qi (pronounced chee), the vital
life force energy that is within all of us. Qi moves along pathways
within our bodies, called meridians. Acupuncture or acupressure
points are specific areas where these meridians rise up and connect
with the surface of the skin. Stimulation of these points helps
our organs, cells and tissues by allowing energy to flow more evenly,
creating an inner balance and supporting the optimal functioning
of our bodies on all levels.
